Zaru FAQ

Zaru is the AI that remembers you and shows every step. It handles your email, calendar and web research, and by default nothing gets sent until you say yes. Free plan, now in beta.

What is an AI companion that asks before it acts?

It is an assistant that prepares actions on your behalf but stops before the consequential ones and waits for your yes to that exact action. The useful version shows you the thing about to happen, an email, a booking, a purchase, rather than a vague "may I proceed". Zaru is a personal AI that works alongside you, remembers you and shows its work; its memory of you is yours to read and edit. In our own use at 100monkeys AI, Inc., when Zaru's mail tool sends an email for our founder, by default the send waits in Zaru's web app under Approvals until he approves that one message.

Is Zaru free?

Yes. The Free plan costs nothing and has no time limit. Paid plans add more when you need it.

Can anyone sign up?

Yes. Zaru is in beta, and anyone who registers gets the Free plan right away. You need only your name and email.

Can I see what Zaru remembers about me?

Yes. Settings > Memory shows everything Zaru remembers about you. You can edit it, add to it, or reset it to a blank page.

Will Zaru send things without asking?

Not by default. Sending an email or changing your calendar waits for your approval, and each step Zaru takes shows up in the chat as it happens.

What can Zaru connect to?

Your email (IMAP and SMTP) and your calendar (CalDAV) from the Vault, the web, and AI tools like Claude Code and Cursor through MCP.

Can Zaru do a job for me every day?

Yes. Open Schedules, pick a workflow, and set it to run once or on a repeat, like every weekday morning. Zaru can also suggest a schedule in the chat for you to check and save. It runs as you, and anything it would send waits for your approval.

Is Zaru open source?

The Zaru harness, zaru-cli, is open source under Apache-2.0, and the AEGIS Orchestrator underneath it is open source under AGPL-3.0. The web app at ask.myzaru.com is not open source.

Zaru is built by 100monkeys AI, Inc. Plans and what each includes are on the plans page. Questions go to [email protected].
